James is a great photographer, coach and guide, had an amazing time with him on the Faroe islands, and would not hesitate to use him again or recommend him to anyone considering a guided tour or one to one tuition.

I've done two trips with James to the Faroe Islands. Both were wonderful experiences. James knows the country very well and we went to many beautiful locations. James is an excellent photographer and helps his clients get their best photos. Most importantly, James puts his puts his clients first, making sure they have a wonderful trip--not a bad cook either. I highly recommend booking one of his tours.

I did participate to a photo tour in the Faroe Islands with James recently. It was an incredible experience; James knows the islands very well and he brought us to very nice spots. As a photographer, James is attentive to his guests and always trying to help and accommodate our desires. James created a very nice atmosphere in the group, it was very well organized, and the accommodation was excellent, I highly recommend!

I went with James to the Faroe islands in April 2023. This was my first real photography trip, and travelling solo, so was generally very anxious about the whole thing. Spending a lot of money on a trip like this is always a risk.
James made the whole trip an effortless pleasure. With all transport and accomodation covered from the airport. I remember getting in the van and meeting the rest of the group we were laughing and joking in minutes. The whole trip James was happy to give pointers and advise on photography without forcing it on you. The trip covered a large range of the islands including some areas not that well covered by photographers. His local ties and knowledge isn't exaggerated, able to provide not only great photography opportunities but interesting history and local knowledge. He would adjust the trip itinerary to meet the weather and group needs which was amazing, and with the weather being unpredictable meant we always had locations we could go too. Not only did we get some amazing sunsets we saw some northern lights. I've got a whole book of pictures I'm very happy with.
I genuinely can't recommend travelling with James enough, the Faroe islands are breath taking in their beauty and dramatic landscapes and James makes visiting easy. I'll be travelling again with him soon!

I did a workshop on the Faroe Islands with James in 2022, and it was excellent! His ability to provide deep local insight (he has been traveling there for many years) and predict/adjust plans on-the-fly due to the fickle Faroe weather - so that we had the best experience and opportunity to get the best shots - were fantastic additions to an already wonderful photography adventure together in a small group. He showed care and respect for the land as well as the lens, and not to mention he had great food recommendations as well! The days were long with plenty of varied locations, but without being absolutely draining -- there were always plenty of stops for those that needed to refuel. 10/10 would definitely recommend a workshop if you are considering one like this.

I joined James’ workshop in the Faroe Islands in October 2021, and had a great experience exploring this fascinating place with him and a small group. James has personal connections to the Faroes, and over many visits and stays there has learned some of the best spots to hunt for photos (not just the ones on social media). He’s also a fantastic cook who prepared the meals at our comfortable residences each night — my vegetarian diet was no issue, and he almost seemed to relish finding ways to make multiple dishes at once.
The Faroes can present some challenging conditions — think constantly shifting, often wet and windy weather as well as some hikes over boggy ground out to clifftops (but what views!). James was flexible, sharing an itinerary but also switching plans in consultation with the group to chase the best conditions for photography. As a small group (four participants plus James), we were never in each other’s way for shots, and James was always on hand for questions. We photographed a good variety of landscapes and seascapes, some traditional architecture and villages, and even some stars in the incredibly dark skies…
I recommend James’ workshop in the Faroes — you won’t regret it. If you join him, I also suggest the two-day Smyril Line ferry from Hirtshals, Denmark — effectively the Faroes’ supply line from mainland Europe — as an enjoyable crossing but also a suitable transition that helps underscore how remote these islands are.

James is an excellent guide and I would recommend him to anyone! Went on a week trip with him. He's very knowledgable in anything he does, caring, laid back but still plan-driven, and flexible. What more could you want!
